Born in Dinslaken, Germany, in 1968. 1992 to 1995 study of Physics at Göttingen University. 1992/1993 studies at University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. 1995 degree Diplom-Physiker, Georg-August-Universität Göttingen (Thesis "Infrared Spectroscopy of Size-Selected Amino Acid Clusters", Max Planck Institute for Flow Research, Göttingen). 1996-2000 PhD project (Measurement of the Self-Diffusion Tensor of Water in the Human Brain) at Max Planck Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, Leipzig. 2000 degree Dr. rer. nat., University of Leipzig. 2000 to 2011 Research Associate at University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, Hamburg (Department of Neurology, then Department of Systems Neuroscience). 2011 appointed Juniorprofessor of Magnetic Resonance Imaging at University of Lübeck, Institute of Medical Engineering; Professor since Nov. 2018.
