SAMBA PATI (Smart Application of Magnetic-Based Particle Therapy and Imaging)

The development of Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI), as a tool for new possibilities in the field of medical diagnostics, has been driven forward in the past years. However, the magnetic nanoparticles that are used as a tracer material in MPI are used as a therapeutic drug in other medical applications. In this project, the combination of therapy and diagnostics with MPI is performed.

The focus in our institute within the strong collaboration will be on two main parts. First, the evaluation of magnetic nanoparticle characteristics that are needed for the combined use in imaging and therapy of MPI. Second, the design, the integration, and the validation of an MPI-HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) thermotherapy device.
